# First Preview deployment without any Production bootstrap

Subject: First Preview deployment without any Production bootstrap

Hello Vercel team,

In a new project with no previous deployments, we used Vercel CLI 64.2.0 on Windows:

vercel deploy --yes --target preview

The deployment returned target=production and received automatic Vercel aliases. We deleted it; recorded post-removal checks showed zero deployments and zero aliases. No custom domain or DNS changes were made.

Your Environments and CLI documentation describes the first-deployment Production rule. PR #17206 adds a notice, and issue #17069 reports this behavior.

Is there a supported method to create the very first deployment as Preview without creating any Production deployment, including a temporary bootstrap?

If so, please provide the documented procedure and prerequisites. Otherwise, please confirm that this is currently unsupported.
