# v0 "Fix Free" button triggers out of credits error despite available balance

## Problem
So I was using `v0` and it was going great until I asked it to use `react-pdf`. It has broken pretty much every page and it gave me the **Fix Free** option. However, when clicking it, it keeps saying I need to upgrade my plan.

## Current Behavior
- I have `2.66` credits remaining.
- Clicking **Fix Free** results in an "Out of Credits" popup.
- The error message states:
> **Out of Credits: v0 stopped because you are out of credits. Upgrade your plan to continue.**

Hi @jamesrsingleton, are you still facing this issue? Also, are these remaining credits Gifted or On-demand purchase? If so, v0 Free plan won't let you use them. And since the **Free fix** feature is using the same credit bucket, it finds 0 available credits.

James Singleton (@jamesrsingleton) · 2026-03-12

I did have gifted credits and I am down to my last 2.66 credits. I have clicked the `Fix Free` button before with no problem... Now I am wondering if that `Fix Free` was actually not free and was using credits.

Anshuman Bhardwaj (@anshumanb) · 2026-03-12

Hi @jamesrsingleton, the Free fix button charges some credits for work and then refunds them. So, if you don't have credits it will fail for that reason.

James Singleton (@jamesrsingleton) · 2026-03-12

So you're saying that my 2.66 credits left is probably refunded credits from using the `Fix Free` button a couple of times in this v0 chat? And due to that, no more `Fix Free` will work?

Anshuman Bhardwaj (@anshumanb) · 2026-03-12

Nope. Those 2.66 are the Gifted Credits as you said. Did you have the Fix Free working after your $5/month balance hit 0?

Also, are you able to send messages?

James Singleton (@jamesrsingleton) · 2026-03-12 · ♥ 1

Ah ok, and I don't remember if `Fix Free` still works after hitting the $5/mo balance. It looks like these $2.66 were purchased according to v0 settings. Also, I might be able to send messages still but with $2.66 credits left, not really trying to _waste_ them just to test

Yeah, this explains. Purchased credits can only be used on a paid plan. You shouldn't be able to send a message either.

James Singleton (@jamesrsingleton) · 2026-03-13 · ♥ 1

So because I no longer have a purchased plan I can't use the ones I purchased? I am confused.

James Singleton (@jamesrsingleton) · 2026-03-13

So you are correct, I was not able to submit another message even though I have 2.66 credits.

Anshuman Bhardwaj (@anshumanb) · 2026-03-13

Yes. To use the Purchased credits, you need to be on a paid plan.

James Singleton (@jamesrsingleton) · 2026-03-17

So what you're saying is I can't use the credits I paid for because I am no longer on a paid plan?

Anshuman Bhardwaj (@anshumanb) · 2026-03-18

Yes. That's how the on-demand credits work on v0. You can request a refund for those unused credits from vercel.com/help.

James Singleton (@jamesrsingleton) · 2026-03-19

I believe this is from me paying $20 to upgrade, then cancelling my paid account to go back to free and now I just have 2.66 in credits that I can't use. That feels like a bad design/user experience. So basically, spend another $20 so that you can use this remaining 2.66 in credits or request a refund.

Anshuman Bhardwaj (@anshumanb) · 2026-03-19

Those credits are not from your v0 Premium plan but the on-demand credits. And, yes those are the only two options.
