Hi there!
I’m posting here to ask about an issue with Vercel AI Gateway's automated blocking mechanism, which leaves users trapped in a deadlock with zero human review or appeal path.
Problem Description
While making standard API requests through Vercel AI Gateway, my project suddenly started returning the following error:
{ "error": { "message": "This team is blocked from using AI Gateway. If you believe this is a mistake, contact support at https://vercel.com/help...", "type": "forbidden", "code": "account_blocked" }}
then I opened a ticket via Vercel Support, and the bot instantly replies:
The AI Gateway team has suspended your team's access to AI Gateway due to suspected abuse, and this block cannot be removed. The support team is unable to review, override, or expedite this suspension, and there is no appeal path available.
I've also noticed several other posts describing this exact issue recently.
The API error message explicitly instructs users to "contact support if you believe this is a mistake", but the support AI instantly shuts down the ticket, stating there is no appeal path and the block cannot be removed. What is the point of this?
And there is no detail provided on what traffic pattern triggered the flag. For developers conducting normal testing/building, getting permanently locked out by an arbitrary automated anti-abuse filter with no chance of human review is unreasonable.
