Charged $22 for 42 messages – need explanation, unexpected

I noticed that your system has deducted $22 in credit for just 42 message events, which is completely unexpected for me as a regular user. I am unable to understand how this charge was calculated and would appreciate a detailed explanation of what exactly happened.
