Dpdns.org domain registration/verification issue

how was the dpdns.org issue resolved?

( Need help verifying domain - #12 )

I keep getting a strange error and I haven’t linked my domain to anywhere else but this vercel project so I’m confused. What should i be filling in (on the digitalplat.org site there is only space for nameservers and not .txt files)

The domain troubleshooting guide can help with most custom domain configuration issues. You might be able to use that guide to solve it before a human is available to help you. Then you can come back here and share the answer for bonus points.

You can also use v0 to narrow down the possibilities.

Hey, @trudiewang-3568! Welcome :waving_hand:

Could you switch to Vercel’s nameservers?

In your Vercel domain settings, choose the nameserver option instead of TXT verification. You’ll see Vercel’s nameservers listed (usually something like ns1.vercel-dns.com and ns2.vercel-dns.com).

Copy those and update the nameservers on your digitalplat.org domain to point to Vercel’s. After that, it’s just a matter of waiting for DNS propagation, which can take up to 48 hours.

Let us know how you get on!

I had already added vercel’s nameservers to digiplat but i didn’t know I had to change a setting inside Vercel as well. Can you point me to where I do this? I can’t find it in my domain settings! so it just keeps showing me the A and TXT field under my project

From your screenshot, can you remove your Name Server 1 and just have the two Vercel NS?

that was actually how I already had it originally and it was what didn’t work at first and so I tried the way my screenshot shows because vercel gave me that for my A record. so the way you suggested has the same problem unfortunately!

Could you give it another try? Your current configuration doesn’t make sense anyway.

I did as you asked and then refreshed my vercel page but it’s still giving me the exact same error “Verification needed”. There is nothing else on the digiplat end that can be edited or changed or adjusted since it is very basic as a free platform. Is there something that is set up wrong on the vercel side that i can look into?

also are you able to help me find out how the first person who posted about this resolved it? I can’t see the resolved thread i linked to but i had presumed it had been solved for him!

i still haven’t found a solution so i tried a different domain that allows me to put the TXT in but i still get the same issue:

i’ve spent hours on this and even tried a different domain that supports TXT and CNAME and still no luck. if you’re correct and it is on vercel’s side can someone please confirm there is no resolution from the vercel team so i stop wasting hours spinning wheels on this thinking i can fix it? :frowning:

Could you share the domain you’re trying to verify?

i did provide for the other one already:
trudie.dpdns.org (dash.domain.digitalplat.org/)

now i am trying:

trudie.run.place (https://freedomain.one/)

Appreciate your patience with me! I’m just trying to get up to speed

I checked your domain trudie.dpdns.org and right now it isn’t resolving anywhere. The DNS lookup returns a SERVFAIL, which means the domain exists but is misconfigured: no A or CNAME records are set, so Vercel can’t verify it yet.

Could you try the following?

  1. Log in to your DigitalPlat / dpdns.org dashboard
That’s where you manage DNS records for your subdomain.

  2. Add the verification record Vercel gave you

    • If Vercel asked for a CNAME (most common), add something like:

      Name: trudie
      Type: CNAME
      Value: cname.vercel-dns.com

    • If it asked for a TXT record (for ownership verification), add it exactly as shown in your Vercel dashboard.

  3. Save your changes and wait for DNS to propagate
This can take up to 24–48 hours, but often happens faster. You can check using:

    dig trudie.dpdns.org

or an online tool like dnschecker.org. Once you see a valid record instead of SERVFAIL, it’s good to go.

  4. Re-run verification in Vercel
Head back to your project → Settings → Domains, and click Verify.

If you’d prefer to let Vercel handle everything automatically, you can also switch your nameservers to Vercel (ns1.vercel-dns.com and ns2.vercel-dns.com) in the dpdns.org panel — but this only works if DigitalPlat lets you change nameservers.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Right now the reason you’re stuck at “Verification needed” is because there are simply no DNS records in place. Once you add the record from Vercel, it should go through.

sorry but if you look at my previous messages you will see that I showed screenshots where dpdns.org has basically nowhere to add any of that other than the nameservers which I had already changed awhile back per your request and it didn’t work. This is why I tried to switch to this other domain at trudie.run.place (https://freedomain.one/) since it had those options. But adding the CNAME and TXT in this case did not work

i tried all 3 (2 from my domain and the one you suggested) and nothing works. It is still stuck on Verification needed

Looking at your screenshots, the issue seems to be with how the TXT record was added in your DNS panel.

  • CNAME record: This part looks fine. Your trudecname.vercel-dns.com setup is correct and will resolve to trude.run.place
  • TXT record: This is where the problem is. You currently have _vercel.trude.run.place as the TXT name. Most DNS providers automatically append your domain name, so this actually becomes _vercel.trude.run.place.run.place, which doesn’t match what Vercel is looking for.

Could you try the following?

  1. Go back to your DNS control panel and edit the TXT record.

  2. Change the TXT Name to just _vercel (not _vercel.trude.run.place).

  3. Keep the TXT Value exactly as Vercel shows, e.g.:

    vc-domain-verify=trude.run.place,5736c87fc1e95a86d8...

  4. Save your changes and wait a few minutes for propagation.

  5. Hit Refresh in the Vercel dashboard, it should verify successfully once the record is live.

You can double-check your DNS changes with a tool like dig or whatsmydns.net to confirm that _vercel.trude.run.place is returning the correct TXT value before refreshing on Vercel.

sorry i just saw your response.i don’t think this is the issue because i tried to do what you said but if you note the screenshot you will see that i actually by default had to do it the way you suggested already so it didn’t double append as you thought it might have. any other ideas for what might be wrong?
