Feature Request: Add a "Deployer / Viewer" Role (Pro Plan)

Hi Vercel team and community,

Our small team has been enjoying Vercel on the Pro plan, but we’ve run into a gap in the current role system. Right now, Pro members can deploy and manage projects, while Pro viewers can only comment and give feedback on preview deployments.

What we’d really like is a “Deployer / Viewer” role that allows someone to create and view deployments — but without any access to secrets or other sensitive configuration.

This role would:

  • Enable contributors to safely deploy without exposing project secrets

  • Fit small teams who want to separate deployment rights from admin rights

  • Encourage more secure, least-privilege workflows without the overhead and cost of Enterprise-level project roles

I understand that Project-level roles on Enterprise may solve this, but for smaller teams that don’t need the full Enterprise suite, that’s more complicated and expensive than we need. A lightweight deployer role at the Pro level would make a big difference in efficiency and security.

Is this something Vercel is considering for Pro? Or is there another way to achieve this today that we may have overlooked?

Thanks for considering it!

The Pro plan currently has Owner, Member, Viewer, and Billing access roles available. Sounds like you’re looking for something more like a Pro version of the Developer role. Does that look like it would work for what you need if it were available on Pro?

Just want to make sure I understand your needs when I take this feedback to the product team!

Thanks for asking, yes that’s pretty close. I don’t like that the Developer role has access to domain configuration and envars on preview and dev. A role that only lets you create and view deployments would be ideal. “Developers” in our case will increasingly be less technical people using ai. All they need to do is write code, deploy it, share and test a preview link. This is all for open source git repos btw, does that matter?

Thanks for the fast reply!

hey any thoughts @amyegan ?

No news yet, but I’ve taken your case to the product team :slightly_smiling_face:
