Feature Request: Data Residency Options for AI Gateway

Hi Vercel team,

I’d like to request native data residency support for AI Gateway — specifically the ability to ensure that requests are routed and processed only within specific regions (e.g., EU-only or US-only).

Use case:
For compliance and data sovereignty requirements, we need to guarantee that AI prompts and responses don’t leave a specific geographic region. Currently, even when using BYOK (Bring Your Own Keys) with provider restrictions, there’s no way to enforce regional routing through AI Gateway.

What I’m looking for:

  • A configuration option (team-wide or per-request) to specify data residency (e.g., region: "eu")
  • Assurance that requests are routed only to providers/endpoints within that region

This would make AI Gateway viable for organizations with strict data residency requirements without needing to manage region-specific infrastructure ourselves.

Has anyone else run into this? Would love to hear if others have similar needs.

Precisely what’s pushing away from adopting a gateway towards using bedrock directly. There are reasons why I would prefer AI Gateway, but data residency is a strong requirement and a big marketing point for many companies.
