Free credits temporarily have restricted access due to abuse

Heya,

I was testing AI Gateway and dynamic providers. Ran a generate text to several models at the same time without rate limit in mind.
How long would it take to resolve this issue?

@amyegan is this by chance why the Free credits for AI Gateway have been temporarily removed?

It does sound like a rate limiting issue, but I don’t know for sure what the rules are around that for AI Gateway. Let me check with the team to get you the right answer :folded_hands:

Thanks for waiting.

While the upstream providers may have limits, Vercel doesn’t place any rate limits on your queries.

AI Gateway requires a valid credit card on file. You can unlock the free credits by adding a payment method. This helps prevent abuse and provides a seamless experience if you decide you need more credits.

Hi guys,

I am having the same issue but i already brought my own API keys, why am i still being restricted? Am I being rate limited on top of the base models itself? How does that make sense to use?

I have valid card and also added my own API keys but still seeing below error

GatewayRateLimitError: Free credits temporarily have rate limits in place due to abuse. We are working on a resolution. Try again later, or pay for credits which continue to have unrestricted access. Purchase credits at Login – Vercel

Hi @amyegan ,

Yes because gateway is using vercel credits, it ignores my api keys. Basically i can’t specify to force it to use my own api keys for the providers. I am being treated as free tier on vercel level but if vercel is gonna add rate limiting on top of the model providers, that does not make sense to me. Why would i then switch to vercel? I thought the idea was to forward request directly
