Getting Started with the Vercel Community

Welcome to the community!

If you’ve ever used a Discourse site before, then you’re probably already somewhat familiar with how to get around the site. But even if you’re completely new here I’m sure you’ll find your way quickly. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Topic List

The first thing you’ll see when you land on community.vercel.com is the Latest topic list. This shows posts sorted by most recent activity so you always see the latest updates first.

From there you can click over to Top sorting to see topics sorted by popularity for a selected time period (eg. week, month, year). This brings up older topics that have had more time to collect user interactions that you might miss with Latest sorting.

Categories

You can access forum categories from the All Categories page or by using the Categories filter at the top of any topic list.

  • Announcements is where you can find posts related to new features, product updates, and new templates or guides. It’s also the home of the weekly News Cache recap.

  • Discussions is a general discussion space where we talk about our personal projects, seek feedback from other developers, and chat about tech that excites us.

  • Help is where you can get help from other developers and Vercel employees.

  • Feedback is the place to share suggestions, feature requests, and bug reports.

You can also add tags to let others know more about the frameworks and features involved.

Creating a New Post

The guide on How to Get Good Answers is worth a read before opening your first topic. It has some tips that can help you get the info you need as quickly as possible.

You can create a new topic post from any topic list view by clicking the New Topic button at the top of the list. That will bring up an editor panel where you can set the title, choose a category, and write your message. Click the Create Topic button at the bottom of the editor when you’re ready to post it.

If you want to reply in an existing conversation, you can click the Reply button on any post to bring up the editor panel. Write what you want to share and the click the Reply button at the bottom of the editor to post it.

Note that posts can be seen by everyone, so don’t post details you wouldn’t want the whole internet to see.

Updating Your Profile

Your username and profile picture are synced with your Vercel account. If you want to want to change them, go to vercel.com/account/settings and upload a new avatar or change your username. You may need to log out of the community site and sign in again to see your changes.

You can also update your community profile to share more about yourself or include links to your website and social media profiles. Go to community.vercel.com/my/preferences/profile to make whatever updates you like, and click “Save Changes” at the bottom when you’re done.

Reporting Harmful Content

If you ever find a post that seems potentially harmful or malicious, please report it to the moderation team by flagging the post for review.

  • Click the show more button on the post (it looks like three dots next to the Reply button).
  • Click the flag button to open a report form.
  • Select a reason, add a note if required, and click Flag Post.

Preferences

If you would like to switch between dark mode and light mode, you can find a toggle at the bottom of the navigation menu or by changing the theme in interface preferences.

  • Click your avatar image on the right side of the header to open the account menu.
  • Click the Profile person icon toward the bottom of the menu.
  • Click Preferences to visit the account preferences page.
  • Navigate to the Interface tab, choose your preferred theme, and save the change.

You can find notifications, bookmarks, and other settings from the account menu as well.
