I actually had over $40 in credits, but it suddenly disappeared even though I didn’t use it all. I have no idea what happened.

I got billed last month and i do nto have any subscriptions running with vercel, why was billed and money taken from my account?

was it plan credits or purchased “top up” credits.
How I understand it, plan credits dont “roll over” but “top up credits” do (or are saved to end of year). So your plan credits are use it or lose it. I believe.
Is this what happened?
