Invalid Configuration with Vercel Purchased Domain

Hey Team,

I’ve been experiencing some difficulties with my domain. I purchased it through vercel - thisisarc.xyz and it worked perfectly for the first day. I pushed a change and then for some reason the domain stopped working.

I went to to my dashboard and saw this configuration error:

I’ve been through the settings and I made sure everything is correct,

I expected that given I purchased it through vercel is should work seamlessly. would love to know if anyone has experienced this and what the solution is.

Thank you

The domain troubleshooting guide can help with most custom domain configuration issues. You might be able to use that guide to solve it before a human is available to help you. Then you can come back here and share the answer for bonus points.

You can also use v0 to narrow down the possibilities.

I’ve genuinely been through all of it, and either the guide doesn’t highlight a fix or i’ve tried everything for what I’m going through!

Hi @seyidadebayo-3949, welcome to the Vercel Community!

I’m sorry you are facing this issue. It’s quite an un-usal issue with Vercel domains.

Let me check with our team.

Thank you very much - looking forward to hearing from the team!

Hey team, just seeing if there’s an update with this?

Sorry for the wait

The domain was put into hold by the upstream provider (OpenSRS) which usually only happens when the registrant’s address info can’t be verified or doesn’t match the TLD’s requirements. We have opened a support case with them and are unfortunately still waiting for a response

thanks Jacob, hoping this can get sorted swiftly!

Hi @seyidadebayo-3949, can you check and let us know if the domain is working correctly now? You can remove and add it again to the project for a fresh start.

Hi @anshumanb the domain still isn’t working and its still saying the DNS has an invalid configuration. I’ve removed and added it to the project for a fresh start and this also did not work

Thanks for confirming @seyidadebayo-3949. I’m escalating this further to get it resolved.

Hi @seyidadebayo-3949, we’ve received a response from our Compliance Department (OpenSRS’s) regarding the serverHold on thisisarc.xyz: the registry applied this hold as the Spamhaus Project has blacklisted it for having a poor sending reputation link.

For this to be resolved please follow the steps shown on that site to fix the domain reputation issue and become unlisted once again.

Once this is done you can submit their delisting request to the registry at gen.xyz/abuse, providing the relevant information so the registry can review the domain’s current reputation.

Let us know if you have any follow-up questions.

Do you understand how and why this has happened as I haven’t used the domain for anything yet and its been blacklisted?

Also the instructions on how to solve this issue are extremely difficult and given I haven’t had the time to set up a domain I apparently need to find my WHOIS email? Is this something you can assist with?

My domain has been blacklisted by Spamhaus, and they require WHOIS data to be visible for me to prove ownership and initiate the delisting process. However, when I perform a WHOIS lookup for thisisarc.xyz, it consistently shows “No WHOIS data found” (I’ve attached a screenshot of the WHOIS lookup result).

This is a significant blocker, as Spamhaus cannot verify my ownership without a visible WHOIS record, preventing me from getting the domain delisted. My website deployed on Vercel is also currently non-functional, and I was unable to set up email for the domain.

Given that I purchased thisisarc.xyz directly through Vercel, could you please urgently investigate the following:

  1. What is the current registration status of thisisarc.xyz within Vercel’s system? Has it expired or been de-registered?
  2. Why is there no WHOIS data visible for thisisarc.xyz? As the provider through whom I purchased the domain, can you clarify its WHOIS record status and ensure it becomes publicly accessible so I can satisfy Spamhaus’s verification requirements?
  3. Can Vercel provide any logs or insights regarding thisisarc.xyz that could indicate why it was blacklisted by Spamhaus? This would help me understand and address any underlying issues.

The absence of WHOIS data means I cannot prove ownership to Spamhaus, and the domain is effectively unusable. Any information or guidance you can provide to resolve the domain’s registration status and WHOIS visibility would be immensely helpful.

Please let me know what information you require from me to expedite this investigation.

Hi @seyidadebayo-3949, your domain is registered. Let me try to reach out to our domains expert to get you some help. We’ll get this sorted.

Hi @seyidadebayo-3949, I just heard back from the team. We can make the WHOIS data available publicly (as required). Can you confirm with your reply that you want us to make it visible?

Also, I’d like to share that the issue is at the .xyz registry level and we at Vercel aren’t blocking your access. We’ve shared all the insights we had about this issue. It definitely isn’t the ideal situation but going through the process shared above is the only path forward at the moment.

Hi Anshuman,

I’m happy for it to be made public as I don’t think theres any other way to sort this out without it being public at this point. I do ask if when I’ve sorted it - its possible to make it private again?

Hi @seyidadebayo-3949, thanks for sharing the information in private message. I’ll post the future updates here unless they include sensitive data.

@seyidadebayo-3949 I’ve initiated the WHOIS info changes. You will receive an email to confirm these changes. Let me know if you have any issues doing so.
