Is Hobby plan suitable for a SaaS prototype?

Hello!

I am planning to build a prototype of a commercial SaaS product on Vercel. Is it OK to use the free Hobby plan if I am not charging for the product yet? Obviously, I’ll move to the Pro plan before adding real subscriptions.

Hi @emilmelnikov, welcome to the Vercel Community!

Yes, you can use Vercel Hobby plan to try out ideas and build a prototype for your product. But as soon as it becomes commercial, which means you charge or intend to charge users, you should move to the Pro plan.

In any case, as long as you follow the Fair use Guidelines you should be fine.

Thanks!

Could you explain what this means in a bit more detail? For example, I’m thinking about making a “Pricing” page that says “Free while in beta”, or “Free until ${DATE}, then ${PRICE} / month”.

Hi @emilmelnikov, I appreciate your question but delving into the specifics framing is out of the scope and we can’t really enforce any of that.

Remember fair use is an ethical line with legal bindings. So, when you know that your product is being used commercially and users are paying for it. It becomes your ethical and legal obligation to pay Vercel it’s due by using the Pro plan.

OK, got it. But the way, big thanks for the awesome product! Your integrations marketplace is especially cool, I’ve discovered a lot of great companies this way.
