Issue using my domain

Hi! My friend hosted our website through his vercel and used a domain that I purchased through squarespace. I added the vercel nameservers to my squarespace and everything was fine.

Now I want to host the website through my vercel, but when I try, I get this error "Set the following TXT record on _vercel.domain.com to use domain.com in this project. If you wish to transfer the entire domain, this will need to be done by the current domain owner. Once the verification is completed and the domain is successfully configured, the TXT record can be removed. Domain domain was added to a different project. Please complete verification to add it to this project instead."

My friend deleted the domain and project from his vercel, I added the TXT record to my squarespace (host: _vercel, Type: TXT, Value: provided), and I am still seeing this error. I am really stuck. Would someone be able to help me please? Thank you.

I hope you already solved this, . But, in case you haven't, here are a couple of options.

One option is to have your friend add the domain back to his account and transfer it to you: https://vercel.com/docs/projects/domains/transfer-your-domain

Another solution is to verify domain access with a TXT record. In this case I would recommend first switching to using DNS records instead of Vercel nameservers to connect the domains. Then, add the requested TXT record. As noted in the instructions, you can switch back to Vercel nameservers after verification is done.
