Hey Vercel Community,
I’m building Kocteau, an open-source music review app focused on human taste, short written reviews, and music discovery.
The idea is simple: instead of treating music as just another social feed, Kocteau tries to feel more like a quiet editorial space for real listeners. Think music reviews, personal taste signals, and a feed that helps you find what to hear next through other people’s reactions.

What I’m working on right now
The core loop is:
- Enter with email OTP
- Complete a minimal profile onboarding
- Pick initial taste signals
- Review a track
- Use those reviews/signals to improve discovery
Recently I’ve been improving the onboarding, auth flow, guest review flow, feed CTA, and overall dark editorial UI direction.
What I’d love feedback on
I’m especially looking for feedback or contributions around:
- Product flow: does the review-first flow feel clear?
- UI/UX: does the dark editorial direction feel distinct enough?
- Mobile polish: spacing, navigation, review composer, feed readability
- Frontend/code quality: Next.js App Router patterns, component structure, performance
- Contributor experience: better issues, roadmap, docs, or first tasks
I’m very open to design critique, code review, product suggestions, or small contributions. Even “this part feels confusing” feedback would help a lot.
Why open source?
I want Kocteau to grow as a small but thoughtful music product, and I’d like to build it with people who care about product craft, design engineering, and music discovery.
If anyone here is interested in helping shape the app, reviewing the UX, or contributing to the codebase, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks for reading. Feedback is very welcome.
