Hi, for production apps, i wanted to confirm for how long the logs are retained and what are our options for longer term retention (e.g. 6 months)? Also what are the possible solutions for backing up our data so it can be restored in case of a catastrophic issue? Thanks!
Hello,
Default Retention by Plan:
- Hobby: 1 hour
- Pro: 1 day (30 days with Observability Plus)
- Enterprise: 3 days (30 days with Observability Plus)
Longer-Term Log Retention (6+ months)
For retention beyond the default periods, you’ll need to use Log Drains:
- Forward logs to external endpoints for storage and analysis
- Supported services include Datadog, New Relic, and other observability platforms
- You can also set up custom endpoints to store logs in your preferred system
- This allows you to achieve 6+ months retention based on your external service configuration
Data Backup & Disaster Recovery
Vercel Platform Resilience:
- Vercel operates 19 autonomous cloud regions, each maintaining full metadata copies
- They regularly test disaster recovery with zero customer impact
- CDN traffic uses globally-replicated architecture
Your Application Data:
Since Vercel primarily handles deployment and hosting, your data backup strategy depends on your database/storage choices:
- Database Backups: Use your database provider’s backup features (Supabase, Neon, PlanetScale, etc.)
- Vercel Edge Config: Has automatic backups with retention varying by plan
- Static Assets: Stored in Vercel’s resilient infrastructure, but consider additional backups for critical assets
- Environment Variables: Export and store securely in your version control or secrets management
