Dear Vercel AI Gateway Team,
I am writing to request continued access to OpenAI’s exact “o1-2024-12-17” model through Vercel AI Gateway.
Vercel currently routes o1 requests through OpenAI and Azure. OpenAI has announced that public API access to this snapshot will shut down on October 23, 2026, while Azure has listed an October 21 retirement date. OpenAI’s official deprecation policy states, however, that some developers may be able to provision dedicated capacity for continued access after a public shutdown.
Would Vercel consider purchasing or negotiating dedicated capacity to keep the authentic “o1-2024-12-17” model available through AI Gateway after these dates?
I recognize that o1 has lower usage than newer models, but its remaining users are particularly loyal and willing to pay for continued access. I would be willing to use premium per-token pricing or a dedicated legacy-model plan. This is not a request for free access, nor a request for another model that imitates o1. The purpose is to preserve access to the genuine OpenAI snapshot.
As an enterprise AI gateway that already aggregates demand and billing across providers, Vercel is in a strong position to make an arrangement that individual users cannot afford on their own.
Please consider measuring customer interest before retiring the model. I would gladly register for a waitlist, complete a willingness-to-pay survey, or commit to a paid legacy-access plan.
