I’m trying to access one of my project’s DNS configuration, however, it is not showing up under the Domains page on my dashboard. When I try to manually add the Domain, it says “This domain task-master-online.vercel.app is already owned by another Vercel account.
This team has already registered this domain” even though it is me that owns the domain.
The subdomain task-master-online.vercel.app was generated by Vercel for a project, so it should automatically appear in project settings. That’s where you can configure redirects or set it to a different deployment environment. The vercel.app domain itself is owned by Vercel to enable subdomain generation for each project.
If you want to manage DNS records directly, you would need to use a custom domain. Then it would be listed on the Domains page on your team dashboard.
Hi Amy, thank you for your help. To clarify, the subdomain task-master-online.vercel.app was custom-generated by me. I followed the steps in the article you linked and added it as a custom domain. I just followed the steps again to add another custom domain but neither are showing up under the Domains page.
I thought maybe I’d have to purchase a custom domain, but I currently have 4 domains in the Domain page that I have never purchased, so I’m wondering why the issue is specific to this site.
Thanks for clarifying about the subdomain. While it wasn’t automatically generated, it is still a *.vercel.app domain which cannot be fully owned by your team to be used like a custom domain. The root domain, vercel.app, is still owned by another team.
It looks like you’ve added a few custom domains to your list, but they’re not connected to any projects yet. Those domains must not have been associated with any other team when you added them. But you would need to own or control those domains to set DNS records and use them with your Vercel deployments.
If you can describe what you’re trying to accomplish with the DNS configuration, I would be happy to help you find an alternative solution. Otherwise, I recommend buying your own custom domain so you have full control.
Thank you for your help Amy. Essentially, I’m trying to get my web app verified by Google and in order to do so, I must verify that “The website you provided as your homepage is registered to you.” In order to do this, I would like to add a TXT file to my domain’s DNS settings.
Is it required to purchase a domain in order to do so, or can I do so even with a .vercel.app domain?
You won’t be able to add a TXT record to verify ownership of a .vercel.app domain since Vercel owns the root domain. But you can add the TXT record if you use a custom domain.
There are some services that offer free custom domains if you’re interested in that. Another community member recently recommended a couple of options:
