I’m sorry if this has already been discussed about before, but I thought it would be great to have it in the handbook…
tl;dr: Make use of the “Enhance Prompt” option in the chatbox to confirm that you’ve phrased your prompt correctly before submitting it
Preface
Most of us don’t realize how important it is to correctly provide the prompt input in order to get the desired output generated. v0 is just like any other software engineer+developer, except it doesn’t have its own imagination (obviously, I know right
). Us humans usually understand each other better because we tend to visualize someone else’s explanation, which is why image based information pieces are the most effective during a discussion (whiteboards, digital doodling, etc.) however, v0 isn’t quite there yet. (wow! we could possibly make this into a feature, didn’t have that in mind).
Instead of treating v0 as a full fledged human who you expect to operate on the same brainwaves as yourself, you’d do much better to imagine it as a baby who’s trying to understand you better.
Without further ado, let’s discusshow to use the "Enhance Prompt" feature better:
This is where you’ll find the Enhance Prompt button in your chat box under the settings/filter icon.
Now, most of us simply type in a prompt and then use this feature and either get upset that it’s not what you wanted or you submit it regardless of what the output is. I would like to invite you to consider this, what if this button actually represents what the system could understand from your prompt?
I mean, think about it… What if your prompt wasn’t properly structured and that’s the reason the system isn’t understanding what you wish to achieve. Earlier, when the models were young and didn’t have much context to work with, you might have found them to be more effective simply because you were okay with whatever it generated but over time, you got used to the design and now you want the designs to closely resemble the pattern that were generated earlier.
Example: I want to create a barbie dashboard for my store so I can review analytics of my sales, visits, and other store related metrics
Input prompt:
Enhanced prompt:
Now, this generation isn’t that bad, except I didn’t want it for customers but for myself, as an admin, to view KPIs or something…
Input 2:
Enhanced prompt:
I hope that is a good example for what I intend to convey, not the barbie bit
but how to use prompt enhancement to know if your prompt is accurate.
So, the next time you go prompting, try and use this feature not only as a way to improve the grammar in your prompt
but also to make sure that the output of this button has the instructions you actually intended to prompt to v0.
P.S. Yes, there’ll be cases when the agent won’t do exactly what’s being told in simple words, because
A. your prompt is too vague and the system is unable to identify the exact target to work on, or
B. it’s confused, in which case, if you are okay with diving into the editor, you should just find where you want the changes to take place and include them in your prompt
