Vercel domain purchased but showing up as third party

Hello, I have a website hosted on Vercel. I need to move the website to squarespace due to internal decision that the executives wanted to update the website without going through software team members. During my effort to move the domain to squarespace, squarespace required the domain to be unlocked and provide an authorization code. However, natively, Vercel domains are not locked which is great. However, in the process of aquiring authorization code, I have found that my domain on Vercel says invalid configuration. I investigated more into this issue and it says the domain is third party. I moved the domain to belong to my project so I can check Learn more tab. It says I need to update the domain’s nameserver to enable Vercel domain. However, when I check my domains page, it says This domain is registered with a Third Party. and does not allow me to add name servers while the name servers names’ clearly suggests this domain is registered with Vercel.

Is this a bug? How should I add name servers when the domain is not acknowledged as registered with Vercel while it is?

Best regards,

David Kim

The domain troubleshooting guide can help with most custom domain configuration issues. You might be able to use that guide to solve it before a human is available to help you. Then you can come back here and share the answer for bonus points.

You can also use v0 to narrow down the possibilities.

Hi @uvicenvironment-3807, I’m unable to locate the domain on our registrar.

Because we’ll need to discuss private account information, it’s best to open a support case at vercel.com/help for this. Customers on all plan types are welcome to open a new case for any billing issue.

Just describe the problem to the AI chat bot and click the “Create Case” button that appears at the bottom of the chat window. The AI will autofill the form based on the info provided. Then, you can review and adjust any info in the form before submitting it to reach our billing experts.

Please let me know if you have any other questions :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello @anshumanb ! Thank you so much for a quick respond.

I tried to create a case but it won’t let me submit the created case. Can I submit a case manually?

Best regards,

David Kim

I see. Let me reach out to you in private.

Hi @uvicenvironment-3807, I was able to trace your domain in our system and it seems like it was deleted from our system after the transfer.

Domain transferred from Vercel Inc to Squarespace at 2025-08-21 09:31:06

What do you see on Squarespace side?

Also, based on the Whois uveec.ca the NS seems to be on Google Domains, which is SquareSpace I think.

ns-cloud-e1.googledomains.com
ns-cloud-e2.googledomains.com
ns-cloud-e3.googledomains.com
ns-cloud-e4.googledomains.com

Hello @anshumanb !

Thank you for getting back to me. This is what I see on Squaurespace side.

When I do “Try Again”, it asks for authentication code which I do not have from Vercel side.

Should I cancel transfer?

Best regards,

David Kim
