Project: mccarthy-timetable-planner
Plan: Hobby
Problem: Fresh Preview deployments fail with: invalid_root_directory
Verified configuration:
- Git repository root is also the application root
- package.json, src/, api/, and vercel.json exist at repository root
- vercel.json contains no Root Directory override
- existing Vercel project linkage is correct
- Project Settings > Build and Deployment > Root Directory is blank/default
- Root Directory was cleared/reset and saved
- project was re-linked
- API unset/reset was attempted
- direct Vercel CLI deployment from the application root still fails
- Git-triggered deployment reproduces the issue
Expected: A blank/default Root Directory should deploy from the repository root.
Actual: The Vercel deployment API rejects the existing project with invalid_root_directory. Dashboard and effective deployment behavior appear inconsistent, suggesting stale project/control-plane metadata.
Questions:
- Can Vercel inspect/reset the server-side Root Directory metadata for this existing project?
- Is another project-level Root Directory value hidden from the dashboard or normal project API?
- Is there a supported way to reset build/deployment metadata without recreating the project?
- What additional non-secret project/deployment identifiers would help diagnose this?
Constraints: Please do not recommend a replacement project unless unavoidable. Existing Production configuration, aliases/domains, environment configuration, and integrations must be preserved.
