I don’t have enough money currently to actively pay for a domain, so I rather resort to freedns. The issue is, I’m not able to add a TXT to the root of the domain, as it starts with a _, which is blocked to the domain owner on freedns. I can add a CNAME record to my subdomain but that still won’t fix the issue with verification. It will just make me add the TXT after that. Any way to fix this?}

I understand that you want to use a free domain. However, we require TXT verification for domains that are being used in other places to ensure ownership.
I've a solution for you that might just be enough: you can add .vercel.app domains to your project and you can change the prefix to whatever you like subject to availability. So, I'd suggest try adding a more specific .vercel.app domain.
