We’ve been using Vercel for quite some time, but over the past year our bills have increased significantly because of Build CPU usage, and we’ve now reached a point where we need Vercel to review these charges.
The main problem is that Vercel has been automatically building branches that we do not need deployed. We have previously tried to disable/prevent these unnecessary automatic builds. However, at different points they have started occurring again, resulting in a very large number of builds that provide no value to us.
Our latest invoice made the scale of the problem very clear:
- Build CPU Minutes: 136 days 15 hours 28 minutes
- Build CPU cost: $651.98
- Total infrastructure usage: $928.37
- Final September invoice: $988.35
So Build CPU alone represented approximately 70% of our infrastructure usage charges that month.
This isn't an isolated expensive month, either. Our recent invoices have been:
December 2025: $275.94 January 2026: $262.46 February: $417.30 March: $352.27 April: $459.77 May: $372.93 June: $383.39 July: $278.20 August: $283.66 September: $988.35
What is particularly frustrating is that a significant amount of this build activity comes from branches that we never intended to deploy.
For our workflow, there is no reason every development/feature branch should continuously consume paid Build CPU. We tried to prevent this behavior, but it has repeatedly become active again. We only realized the full financial impact after investigating why our Vercel costs had increased so dramatically. At this point, we're asking Vercel for a manual billing review of our Build CPU charges, including the historical charges over the past year.
We would like Vercel to identify how much Build CPU was consumed by these unnecessary branch deployments and consider a refund or account credit for that usage.
I've also seen another case here in the Vercel Community where a customer received a $659.72 credit for unexpected Build Minutes charges after the case was manually reviewed, so I hope Vercel can provide the same type of review for our account.
We are not asking to avoid paying for infrastructure that we intentionally consumed. We are asking Vercel to review the substantial charges generated by automatic builds that we did not want, repeatedly attempted to prevent, and received no benefit from.
We would really appreciate someone from the billing/support team looking into this rather than an automated refund response.
I can provide invoice IDs, project IDs, deployment history, and any other information needed privately.
Thank you.
