Design mode changes: Where do I select the Design System?

Due to the latest changes on Design Mode, a lot of my chats now won’t allow me to select the Design System. It’s only a large rectangle allowing me ONLY to edit when I select something.

Did you know there’s another category dedicated to v0 topics? A human should be here soon to help, but the answer may already be available even faster in one of these other posts.

Our docs are a great place to start.

We also have a walkthrough to help guide your workflow.

And these recordings can give you a look at v0 features and strategies in action shown by our Community:

Yes, this is a result of recent v0 platform updates. The design system selection was modified as part of v0’s shift to an agentic design approach.

  • v0 now automatically selects and applies design systems based on your project context
  • Manual design system selection was replaced with automatic inference
  • Design mode is currently experiencing issues for many users, the team is working to solve this

As a workaround while the team addresses these issues:

  • You can specify your design system preferences directly in your prompts (e.g., “using shadcn/ui components”)
  • Use text prompts to make design changes instead of visual selection
  • Try creating fresh chats for new features

I understand your point, but this solution is not suitable for our use case.

Our goal is to create a centralized design system that allows PMs, engineers, and QAs to build prototypes with a consistent UI. As designers, we need to own and control the design system, while other users should simply select it and move forward.

The previous solution supported this perfectly. With the current setup, v0 creates different UIs and leaves the choice of styles to each individual, which makes it challenging for us, as an enterprise, to maintain consistent branding.
