Current behavior
I’m unable to create a Vercel account using an email that was previously associated with a deleted account. When I try to sign up or log in, I receive the error:
“Unauthorized to access the given account”.
Expected behavior
I should be able to create a new Vercel account with that email so I can join a team that invited it.
What happened
I believe the issue happened because of the following sequence:
-
I originally had a Vercel account with a work email (rick [at] limesharp [dot] net).
-
I deleted that account.
-
After that, I added that email as a secondary email to another Vercel account because I thought permissions would work similarly to GitHub where adding an email to your account allows access to resources granted to that email.
-
Later I realized Vercel permissions are tied to the account identity rather than email aliases.
-
I removed the email from the other account so I could recreate the original account.
-
Now I cannot create a new account with that email and always receive the “Unauthorized to access the given account” error.
I already submitted the Account Recovery Form, but I wanted to ask here in case someone from the Vercel team can help release the email.
Project context
The email was invited to a team project, which is why I need to recreate the account with that same email. I can’t work without it.
