Email locked after account deletion – cannot recreate account

Current behavior

I’m unable to create a Vercel account using an email that was previously associated with a deleted account. When I try to sign up or log in, I receive the error:

“Unauthorized to access the given account”.

Expected behavior

I should be able to create a new Vercel account with that email so I can join a team that invited it.

What happened

I believe the issue happened because of the following sequence:

  1. I originally had a Vercel account with a work email (rick [at] limesharp [dot] net).

  2. I deleted that account.

  3. After that, I added that email as a secondary email to another Vercel account because I thought permissions would work similarly to GitHub where adding an email to your account allows access to resources granted to that email.

  4. Later I realized Vercel permissions are tied to the account identity rather than email aliases.

  5. I removed the email from the other account so I could recreate the original account.

  6. Now I cannot create a new account with that email and always receive the “Unauthorized to access the given account” error.

I already submitted the Account Recovery Form, but I wanted to ask here in case someone from the Vercel team can help release the email.

Project context

The email was invited to a team project, which is why I need to recreate the account with that same email. I can’t work without it.

Have you received help for this issue? Because the same thing happened to me

If you need help regaining access to your old account, please send an email to registration@vercel.com with a link to this conversation and any additional information you can share about the accounts. That will open a ticket with the team with specialized tools to help with account verification and recovery.

I got in contact via registration@vercel.com and It took almost a month, but I got access back. No response from the email, just got access back.
