I saw a viral tweet that wanted a finance app that would get three things done:
- What I spent today
- What did I spend this week
- What did I spend this month
As a budding Product Manager, I followed the popular saying, “scratch your own itch.” After a few hours of “vibe-coding” using Vercel, I built SpendEasy v1.0 MVP to empower budget-conscious users (aged 18-45) to effortlessly monitor their expenses. SpendEasy lets you track “What I spent today,” “This week,” and “This month,” delivering clear, real-time insights to help you stay within budget.
The journey began with defining the product vision: a simple, intuitive tool for financial discipline. I crafted a detailed Product Requirements Document (PRD), outlining user stories that capture core needs, such as viewing daily spending with transaction lists and adding manual entries. Key features include a Spending Summary Dashboard that displays totals across all timeframes, along with detailed views for each, and a “Manual Transaction Entry” form for easy input of amount, merchant, and date.
These features enable users to input purchases and receive outputs such as aggregated spending totals and breakdowns, even without bank integration in v1.0.
I prioritised a logical implementation sequence: starting with transaction entry to enable data input, followed by daily, weekly, and monthly views, and finishing with the dashboard for a polished UX.
I also designed a minimalist brand identity, featuring mint green (#00CC66) for growth, soft navy (#003366) for trust, and a coin-arrow logo, keeping it simple for the MVP while ensuring a unique and approachable feel.
