Hello Vercel team,
I'm building a management web app (Next.js + Supabase) for a local French scouting group. It is a non-profit association under the French law of 1901, run entirely by volunteers. I develop the app as a volunteer and nobody involved in the project is paid.
The app handles member registration and event sign-ups. Members pay their annual membership fee and camp fees online through HelloAsso (a French non-profit payment platform), integrated into the site through its API. The payments are processed by HelloAsso, not by Vercel. The amounts only cover the association's costs (camp expenses, insurance, etc.). French law forbids an association from distributing profits, so no one makes any financial gain from them.
I read the Fair Use Guidelines. The definition of commercial usage is based on financial gain, but the list of examples also includes any method of requesting or processing payment from visitors of the site. Because of that example, I'm not sure whether cost-recovery payments to a non-profit fall under commercial usage.
Our budget is very limited: all the money we collect goes to the children's activities, and the association cannot afford a $20/month Pro subscription.
Can this project stay on the Hobby plan?
Could a Vercel staff member please confirm?
Thank you very much!
