Questionnaire for developers/contributors

Hello next.js contributors! I am currently doing research at the University of Twente regarding the management of open source projects, for which I would like to conduct some interviews. If you want to provide some feedback on (some of) the questions, please message me your answer on Discord (drwr_) or via email (d.r.osinga@student.utwente.nl), and we can have a small conversation about it

Thanks in advance!

QUESTION LIST

General:

  1. What is your role in the next.js project?

Marketing:
2. How does next.js attract new maintainers?
3. How does next.js attract new users?

Quality assurance (QA):
4. There seem to be some QA methods used in next.js, such as (1) automated testing and (2) code reviews (via Pull Requests). Are there any other QA methods that your project uses? If the project does (not) use a particular method, do you know why?

  1. Regarding communication: next.js seems to have a few communication methods, such as an FAQ (Github Wiki), a Discord server, a website, youtube channel, X-account, Medium account, Meetup and LinkedIn.
5a. How did this selection of communication methods/software come to be, and what problem do these methods/software solve?

5b. Is there any method/software used that is not mentioned in the above list?

5c. Which problems were encountered in the project which caused amendments to the communication/guidelines?

Management:
6. How does next.js keep developers active in the project?

  1. How are developers rewarded for their work on next.js?

  2. How often are there debates/discussions? Where do these take place (Discord, Github Issues, …)

Again, feel free to send your (partial) answers via Discord (drwr_) or via email (d.r.osinga@student.utwente.nl). Thank you very much!

Great questions! Good luck getting contributions to this, I hope that folks in our community share some answers.

Have you seen @eric-burel’s work? He’s done a lot of similar community work! We also did this session with him a couple of weeks back which may be helpful for your questionnaire and research.
