How to resolve high Vercel invoice and downgrade to Hobby plan after build setting error

Hi Vercel team and community,

I’m reaching out because I’m stuck in a situation I can’t resolve on my own.

Problem

I received an invoice for $734.49, with $709.96 of that being Build Minutes charges. This happened because my build settings were misconfigured (I believe Turbo builds or a higher-tier build machine was enabled unintentionally). I’ve since corrected the settings to prevent this from happening again.

Current Situation

  • This is a hobby project and I’m unable to pay this invoice
  • I tried to cancel the invoice through the self-service refund tool, but the amount exceeds the automatic cancellation limit
  • I want to downgrade to the Hobby plan, but I can’t do that while there’s an outstanding balance

I’m essentially stuck and don’t have a way forward. Is there any way someone could help me get this invoice cancelled so I can downgrade my plan?

If you’ve already opened a case, rest assured our support team will help you as soon as they get to the ticket.

Customers on all plan types are welcome to open a new case for any billing issue. Just describe the problem to the AI chat bot and click the “Create Case” button that appears at the bottom of the chat window. The AI will autofill the form based on the info provided.
