Why is Vercel not included in the Green Web Foundation?

Hi Vercel team,

I’m running a Next.js site on Vercel (robin.tips) and recently went through a sustainability audit. While the page itself scores well on PageSpeed (95/98/100/100), it gets 0 points on the “Sustainable Server” check because Vercel is not registered in The Green Web Foundation’s Green Web Dataset (https://www.thegreenwebfoundation.org/).

Many sustainability scoring tools rely on this dataset as the source of truth for whether a host is green. Sites hosted on Vercel currently get penalized regardless of how optimized they are.

Since Vercel already operates on carbon-neutral infrastructure (per your public commitments), getting registered would be straightforward and would benefit thousands of Vercel customers in the same situation.

The verification process is documented here: https://www.thegreenwebfoundation.org/providers/how-to-get-listed/
It would mean a lot to the developer community (and the planet) if Vercel could submit verification.

Regards, Ida

Serverless architecture is at the heart of Vercel. All of our services rely on that energy-efficient alternative to traditional servers. It’s better for the environment and it helps keep things affordable.

Vercel uses multiple cloud providers that have made commitments to reducing their overall carbon footprint. However, use of servers around the world with multiple providers means we can’t reliably calculate and prove our carbon footprint.
