AI Gateway billing error blocking all model requests despite active credits

Hi,

Issue Description:

All Vercel AI Gateway API calls are failing with a billing error, despite having sufficient credit balance on my account.

Error Message:



Provider vercel-ai-gateway has billing issue (skipping all models)

Details:

  • Affected models: claude-opus-4.6, claude-sonnet-4.5, claude-haiku-4.5 (all models)

  • Error started: 2026-04-23 at approximately 17:21 UTC

  • Credit balance: $29 active credits

  • Payment status: All payments processed successfully (confirmed via invoice history)

  • Troubleshooting attempted: Gateway restart — issue persists

Observed Behavior:

  • Payments are going through correctly (recent purchases of $10 and $20 credits processed successfully)

  • Account is incorrectly being flagged for billing issues

  • No actual payment or billing problem on my end

Expected Behavior:

  • API calls should work normally given the active credit balance

I am having the same issue. Getting this issue sometimes, and it starts working after a while

Did you manage to figure out what is the issue?

I am still on a 5 free credits (4 remaining), since we are testing it. But I don’t see any restrictions that should affect it any other way

No not really, I think it might be related to some kind of limitation on their side, but I still don’t understand where it’s coming from.
