Vercel billing charges appearing as 'Zeit crypotle.com' in Apple Wallet

Problem

I was looking through transactions in my Apple Wallet and saw one from American Express that looked like a scam.

Details

The transaction is labeled as:

Zeit crypotle.com

Looking at it directly in the American Express app, it correctly shows up as Vercel.

Impact

In Apple Wallet, some wire got crossed and the naming is incorrect. I almost disputed the charge immediately because it looked suspicious.

Is this something for the Vercel billing team to investigate with Apple and/or AmEx?

it’s also showing up as Zeit Crypotle in the AMEX app too, counter to what the OP has seen.

I was talking to the AMEX cs staff, and she told me the charge seemed to be stemming from Nigeria under “Zeit Crypotle.com“ which almost gave me a heart attack. I did my own research and landed on this thread. I was sweating bullets thinking someone stole my credit card information. I can unfreeze my cards now. Thank you Pauline for the update.

Just saw this today as well, pretty hilarious bug. I was pretty upset that I was going to have to call up American Express until I found this thread.

Some developer was probably just up late at night working on a new feature and was like “zeitgeist crypto chipotle” sounds good for now…

just saw the same on Amex billing charge - I almost triggered a charge back

We’ve got it updated so the descriptor will reflect Vercel, Inc instead of Zeit crypotle.com going forward. Thank you all for raising this issue so we could fix it!

Solution summary

To resolve this, Vercel updated their payment processor configuration to ensure the merchant descriptor correctly reflects Vercel, Inc for all future transactions. This change ensures that billing statements in banking apps and digital wallets accurately identify the company, preventing confusion and accidental charge disputes.

Hello! Thank you for the update but it seems like the issue is still there. I just got a charge in my AMEX Business CC it shows up as”ZEIT CRYPOTLE .COM”

If a charge was initiated prior to the name being corrected yesterday, that charge would still appear with the old description. Future charges will reflect Vercel, Inc
